The mummification process took 70 days the body would
be washed and the origins removed with special equipment. They removed the origins through the nose by whacking just below the spot between the eyebrows to break the bone. They did that son they can stick the tool through the nose passage and get to the brain. From there they jab the tool and mix up and start pulling it out. They stored all the origins in what were called called canopic jars which were put in the tombs with them.
To go to the afterlife you had to have done three things: have your name recorded somewhere, you had to be preserved as a mummy and Anubis had to make sure your heart was no heavier than a feather because they believed that if your heart contained shame it would be heavier. once Anubis had weighed your heart and it was heavier than the feather, then he gave you to an Egyptian monster who was part hippo, part cheetah, part lion and part crocodile. You are not worthy of proceeding to the afterlife. If you heart is lighter you go to the castle go Osiris and Isis where they would make the final decision.
The books of the dead were scrolls of spells that the Egyptians used in the afterlife to protect them from many different obstacles. Only the very rich could afford the books of the dead because it contained such important content.

Osiris was killed by his brother Seth. Seth was jealous of Osiris and killed him by chopping him into pieces. Seth was next in line for the thrown. Along with cutting him he threw him into the nile so no one would find him. Later though Isis (Osiris's wife) found him in the river. she tried everything to put him back together but she couldn't Instead she put him together on a flat surface and wrapped him up in cloth. She had made the first mummy.
How Does this Influence today?

The past and present are very alike it's just that the present is the past developed and more powerful. The afterlife has Impacted the present in many ways. The Christian culture believes once you die you go to heaven, The afterlife is very similar if you do bad things you go to hell, which is the equivalent of being fed to that monster. The past is the present layered, the base, the structure, it's just been perfected.
